This is my first ever wood work piece. i am really keen to build a dining table, but as a first project i decided to start with a coffee table. my partner asked for a small table to fit next to the sofa so i changed the measurements on the plan and halfed most of the width of the wood.. I used varathane weathered grey stain and poly semi-gloss for the top. for the bottom, i used varathane ebony stain and poly semi-gloss. i went with these because our couches are black on the bottom and grey on top..
Wife showed me a picture and i found instructions from the projects already on here and did it less than a week. i had the wood part done in about 5 hours and with two coats of staining and a couple of the clear coat and me trying to find some time to do it while working a lot you could probably have this done in a weekend if you were free for the whole weekend.. Followed the directions fairly closely except for a few things. cut down on the 2x2 supports for the 2x4. it kinda just seemed like overkill. also, we added a block under the top and bottom of the 2x4 so i wouldn't have to screw in from the top..
